Prasenjit completed his B.Sc from University of Burdwan in 2001. M.Sc degree is awarded to him from IIEST, Shibpore (formerly known as BESU) in 2003. He did his PhD from Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI), Bhavnagar under the supervision of Dr. Amitava Das in 2010. Dr Kar went to Ohio State University for Postdoctoral fellowship in 2010. In 2011 he was awarded Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship. He joined the group of Prof. Dr. Peter Bauerle in University of Ulm.  July 2013, he joined in IIT Roorkee as assistant professor. Since 2019, he is working as Associate Professor in the same department.
